We congratulate our Partner, Bob Tchegus, who was acclaimed as the Director-at-Large (East Region) to the Ontario Bar Association's Board of Directors for 2011-2012. The OBA is the voice of the legal profession advocating on behalf of 17,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and students. Bob has been an elected member of the OBA's Governing Council and a voting member of the Canadian Bar Association's National Council since 2008.


Big Brothers Big Sisters KFL&A's Annual "Bowl for Kids' Sake"

On Saturday March 26, 2011, Cunningham Swan participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters KFL&A's annual "Bowl for Kids' Sake" event. The event was a huge success and the money raised will be put towards the continuation of the agency's worthwhile mentoring programs for children in our local community.

Cunningham Swan Welcomes a New Business Law Associate

Lisa Asbreuk

We are pleased to welcome Lisa Asbreuk as an Associate in our Business Law Group. Prior to moving to Kingston and joining Cunningham Swan, Lisa practiced with a major national law firm in Toronto and Calgary, and in-house with municipally owned power company ENMAX Corporation in Calgary. Lisa's background includes corporate law matters and commercial transactions and contracts, with a specialization in energy law. Lisa has experience in law and policy matters related to the Ontario and Alberta electricity sectors and emerging Canadian carbon markets, particularly with respect to renewable power project development, energy contracts, leases, project due diligence, interconnection and transmission issues, procurement and construction contracts, regulatory requirements, off-sets, conservation and demand side management, micro-generation and distribution generation, and issues affecting local utility companies.

Cunningham, Swan is pleased to welcome our newest additions, Articling Students, Kate Culver and Greg Dobney. At Cunningham Swan, our Articling Program offers the opportunities and exposure one would expect at a larger law firm in a larger centre but with the hands on experience and collegiality that can only be achieved in a small firm environment. As Articling Students at Cunningham Swan, Kate and Greg will be exposed to a broad range of practice areas, including litigation, family law, labour and employment, wills and estates, real estate, business law, municipal law, land use planning, development and environmental law, education and health law. Kate and Greg will experience close supervision and mentorship, while having the encouragement to focus on their areas of interest as they develop. We look forward to seeing Kate and Greg excel both personally and professionally as they launch their legal careers!

Cunningham, Swan welcomes David Freedman who has joined our firm as Associate Counsel and practices in our Wills & Estates and Litigation Groups.

David is also an Associate Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law at Queen's University where he teaches Wills & Estate Planning, Trusts Law, and Elder Law. He has previously taught at Oxford and Cambridge universities. David has written, taught, been retained as an expert consultant by government in Canada and the U.K., and has represented private clients in a number of areas of law.
