Bob Tchegus is one of our Partners responsible for our Real Estate Law Group and also practises in the Land Use Planning, Development and Environmental Law Group. He is designated by the Law Society of Upper Canada (“LSUC”) as a Certified Specialist (Real Estate Law).
Bob restricts his practice primarily to real estate issues.
Bob's clients include first-time home buyers, buyers, sellers, builders, developers, partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations, trusts, joint ventures, religious organizations, public and private financial institutions, municipalities and other governments and agencies requiring transactional, planning and development, assistance or environmental expert legal opinions involving real estate law. In 2006 Bob was appointed as a Part Time Member of the Assessment Review Board, extending his knowledge base to real estate assessment and taxation issues. He has been re-appointed to 2014.
Bob graduated from Queen's University's Law School and after spending two-and-one-half years with the Legal Department of the City of Kingston, joined our firm in 1987. He has taught property law for the LSUC Bar Admission Course, Ontario Real Estate Association, St. Lawrence College and Queen's University. He has written and been a frequent guest lecturer and panelist for LSUC, Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”), Canadian Bar Association and Frontenac Law Association, all in which he maintains membership. Bob was elected to governing Council of the OBA, and recently to its Executive Committee. He was also elected to the Executive of the OBA's Real Property Section.
In our community, Bob is currently a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for Kingston, Ontario, the Kingston Humane Society, the Kingston Historical Society and the Rideau Trail Association. He is the Vice-President of the Grenville Park Co-Operative Housing Association Limited and was elected by the graduates of Queen's University to University Council until 2014. He is a former President and Treasurer of the Kingston Family Y.M.C.A., Director of the Kingston Home Builders Association and Chair of the Kingston and Area United Way Property Acquisition and Professionals Committees.
