Articling Program

The firm typically employs one or two articling students per year. It does so with a view to long-term employment with the firm as an associate and eventual partner, and not merely to fulfill a need for articling students services. To that end, prospective articling students should have a desire to practise in Kingston area. They should also have strong analytical skills, be engaging and have an interest in practising in a collegial and community-minded firm.

The articling program involves a split rotation. Approximately half of the articling year is spent engaged in barrister-type work (civil litigation, labour & employment, and family) with the other half being solicitor-type work (corporate, real estate, wills & estates, and municipal). There is flexibility in the articling program so that students with a particular interest can gain additional experience in that area.

Students are assigned a mentor in addition to their articling principal. Partners and associates try to involve the articling students in all aspects of their practices, including meeting with clients, attending court and legal drafting.

The firm has an in-house continuing education program (coordinated by our librarian) and encourages students' participation in other continuing education opportunities throughout the year.

We offer a friendly and supportive environment committed to providing our clients with the best legal advice and service possible. Please contact us if you would like to discuss our firm, the services it offers and our articling program in greater detail.
